Free Shopify catalog check

John Singh · every product, counted in your browser

Enter your store’s address. This page reads the product list your store already publishes and counts what holds products back in search and with shoppers: no photo, no description, a short description, a single photo, a small main photo. Then it lists which to fix first.

Free, with no sign-up. This page has no analytics, no cookies and no tracking, and it stores nothing. Your browser reads the store’s public product list (the one most Shopify stores serve at /products.json) directly from the store. Nothing is sent to me. It reads up to 10,000 products, 250 at a time.

What the check counts

No photo
The product has no image, so its page shows the theme’s placeholder. Google needs a product image to show an item in its shopping results, and shoppers rarely buy what they can’t see.
No description
The description has no text (it may hold only an image). That leaves search engines little beyond the title to match a search to, and when no search description is set, Shopify builds the page’s meta description from the product description, so these pages usually go out with none.
Short description
Fewer than 30 words: often a single line from a supplier. Enough to exist, rarely enough to answer what a shopper wants to know.
A single photo
Only one image. Shoppers look for more than one angle, the scale, or the product in use before they buy.
Small main photo
The first image is under 800 pixels wide. On a phone the main photo usually fills the screen’s width, 1,080 pixels or more on most phones, so a smaller one is stretched and looks soft exactly where most shoppers see it. Shopify suggests 2,048 by 2,048 pixels for square product photos.

It reads only what your store already publishes to everyone: products on the Online Store sales channel. Not affiliated with Shopify.
